Drive to Escape

March 14, 2010 Leave a comment

Driving has always been an important part my life, its been there as a method of escaping from it. To clear the mind completely to were all your thinking about is shift points and calculating risk, or if you need to think just slow down and get lost. Today was one of those days where I just needed to drive to get lost and it was perfect whether that gave that wonderful strange surreal mood; gray sky’s and rain.

I started out going West (I think) and just looked for windy roads. Along the way I found my new favorite stretch of road; sharp banked bends, blind hill tops that make your ass start to come off the seat and all this with winter tires and rain soaked roads. I also decided to take photos along the way to share in the hopes that they might give a sense of the clarity that I found, along with showing some cool shit you see when driving no where. This may seem backwards after looking at the photos but I have always found peace in blur and confusion.  Strangely enough this is how I remember my drive this morning when thinking about it, little snap shots here and there.

Abstract Automotive Art

While photographing cars one of my favorite things to do is look for perfect detail.  Almost every car has some perfect line, shape, or detail that can be beautiful by it self. While classic cars tend to have much more interesting lines then modern cars, modern cars also have the opportunity for that perfect abstraction.  Not only do i find the more abstract photos beautiful i also love nicely done emblem photos. Most of this comes from when i was growing up and starting to learn about photography i used to stop by the local dealer (Williams Auto World) at least once a week, i was also lucky enough to have parents that would drive me to the Ferrari Dealership (Cauley Ferrari) once a month or so.  Both dealers were always nice and let me photograph their cars, I don’t know if it was because i was youngish that they were nice or i like to think that they saw the passion i had for automobiles.

While dealers are not a great place to go for photos in general they do force you to look for those details, those abstractions the metal forms.  Below are some of my favorite details along with the location they were taken at.

As with almost all of the photo’s on my site, the photo of the day are available for print through Smugmug services. When you place an order from this site Smugmug processes your order and fulfills them through professional print labs that provide stunning prints. At no point do I see your payment information or personal information, this offers you the tightest security and Smugmug’s great reputation.
